Welcome to Teach Peachy: Let’s Share Some Goodness! (click to read this blog post)

Well, howdy, fellow educators! If you’re reading this, you’ve officially stumbled upon Teach Peachy, my little corner of the internet where I’m absolutely thrilled to start sharing all the cool stuff I’ve picked up over the years. Honestly, this blog is a true labor of love because, simply put, I just love to share! Whether it’s to help support literacy, dive into reading instruction, or just dish out general teaching tips and tricks, I’m here for it all.

You see, I’m Carolyn McCully, and I’m headed into my 17th year of teaching right here in the Cobb County School District. My teaching journey has been a wonderfully diverse one, giving me a unique perspective on how our young folks grow and learn. I spent 8 years in middle school, teaching everything from remedial to honors classes, and for the past 9 years, I’ve been with our high school students, from ninth to twelfth grade, including advanced placement. My background is deeply rooted in literacy and reading instruction – it’s a real passion of mine. In fact, I genuinely love to read; you’ll typically find me diving into at least 50 books a year!

Beyond the classroom, I’ve had the fantastic opportunity to contribute to the growth of fellow educators by providing professional development at both the school and district levels. My roles as an instructional coach and department chair have also focused on building up good curriculum and supporting teaching excellence.

So, what can you expect from Teach Peachy? Well, get ready for a treasure trove! I’ll be adding various pages of recommended lists of resources I absolutely swear by, offering reviews of educational books I’ve read, and even sharing insights on general books and how I might teach them or what activities I’d do with them in the classroom. And here’s some exciting news: I also plan to use this site as a springboard to start up a Teachers Pay Teachers account to share some of my very own creations with y’all!

This year, especially, feels like a pivotal one. With our new state standards rolling out and my own district here in Cobb adopting a brand-new textbook, I know there’s a buzz—and maybe a little worry—in the air. That’s why I especially want to talk about these new standards, brush up on relevant theories that can help us navigate them, and, of course, share general resources to just make your life a little bit easier.

Change can feel daunting, but I truly hope that in some small way, Teach Peachy helps other Georgia teachers, and English/Literacy and Reading teachers of all grade levels, support their own journey. We’re all in this together as we navigate this new landscape in instruction and student learning, and I’m here to share the load.

Stick around, folks. There’s plenty of goodness to come!
